One of the areas that I think is EXTREMELY important to the mix of GOING GREEN is to look at natural ways to clean and live with more natural ingredients. I have personally experienced a difference in my family just by going green. I switched, stores shop and save using simple detergents and natural botanicals in my home. It has helped us to clear up allergies, colds, sinuses, headaches and even provide a safer environment for our new born. As MOM, wife, friend and sister, I know that it’s the best thing for those I love. It is certainly healthier than what we were doing. Consider the benefits and weigh the cost of not doing it. It could cost you as much or more as your energy bill in the long run. What’s your thought? Angelique Bartholomew J.D. http://www.healthy-us.com Read More »

The most acutely dangerous cleaning products are corrosive drain cleaners, oven cleaners, and acidic toilet bowl cleaners, according to Philip Dickey of the Washington Toxics Coalition. Corrosive chemicals can cause severe burns on eyes, skin and, if ingested, on the throat and esophagus. Ingredients with high acute toxicity include chlorine bleach and ammonia, which produce fumes that are highly irritating to eyes, nose, throat and lungs, and should not be used by people with asthma or lung or heart problems. These two chemicals pose an added threat in that they can react with each other or other chemicals to form lung-damaging gases. Combining products that contain chlorine and ammonia or ammonia and lye (in some oven cleaners) produces chloramine gases, while chlorine combined with acids (commonly used in toilet bowl cleaners) forms toxic chlorine gas. Some not so SUSPECTING products have fragrances added to many cleaners, most notably laundry detergents and fabric softeners, m ...

My husband is a realtor we have seen better days in the real estate market but we are still very fortunate in Texas to have a strong economy that’s braving the winds of foreclosures and empty homes. However my husband Brian has seen the newest trend of home building as a HUGE benefit to customers and future home builders that want to save money long term and even live healthier. Understanding it all (meaning the definitions of green to the builders) is a bit much for me but he often mentions the types of building materials, cements and paints and other compliances that make the home much more energy efficient and even safer to live. I have seen the GREEN trend take off over the past few weeks in the news and other media. But I am concerned about the long term benefits of owning an energy efficient home when most of them will have a CHEMISTRY LAB under the cabinets and closets. The average home has more the sixty two different types ...

THE PROBLEMS Personal Health When consumers buy commercial cleaning products, we expect them to do one thing: clean! We use a wide array of scents, soaps, detergents, bleaching agents, softeners, scourers, polishes, and specialized cleaners for bathrooms, glass, drains, and ovens to keep our homes sparkling and sweet-smelling. But while the chemicals in cleaners foam, bleach, and disinfect to make our dishes, bathtubs and countertops gleaming and germ-free, many also contribute to indoor air pollution, are poisonous if ingested, and can be harmful if inhaled or touched. In fact, some cleaners are among the most toxic products found in the home. In 2000, cleaning products were responsible for nearly 10% of all toxic exposures reported to U.S. Poison Control Centers, accounting for 206,636 calls. Of these, 120,434 exposures involved children under six, who can swallow or spill cleaners stored or left open inside the home. (Source National Geographic for KIDS) Whe ...

Every year, five to ten million household poisonings are reported of which many are fatal. The majority of the victims in these cases are children, who are especially vulnerable to the chemicals and toxins found in everyday household cleaners we use. More children under the age of four die of accidental poisonings at home than are accidentally killed with guns at home according to one report. Children are more vulnerable because of weight and neurological development causing the pollution of the body faster. Children also pick up the chemical and toxic exposure more often because they play on floors, and outdoors and are less likely to wash or pay attention to things that could have been potentially exposed to pesticides and other hazardous toxins. As a mom of four I am extremely concerned about the exposure of certain chemicals and toxins around my children. I often reflect on the fact that we were told for YEARS that second hand smoke did ...

“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
Mark Twain Did you know?
The risk of premature death decreases 20% to 60% when a person receives routine screenings for cholesterol levels, mammography, Pap smears, prostate exams and a flu shot. Your family history does matter, but lifestyle choices matter most. To some extent, your relatives are as responsible for passing down your “healthy destiny” as they are for passing down the antique clock in the corner. But you play more of a role then you think. About 80% of how long and how ell you live is up to you- determined by your lifestyle choices and behaviors. Source: American Journal of Public Health I am a believer that when it comes to the CHOICES you determine the good the bad and the ugly! We all have choices. My husband had diabetes, blood pressure and ...

Dozens of common household cleaning products contain hidden toxic chemicals linked to fertility disorders in lab animals, according to data gathered by a women’s research group. Jane Kay, Chronicle Environment Writer A type of glycol ether is frequently found in popular cleaning products such as Windex Aerosol, Formula 409, Lemon Fresh Pine-Sol and Simple Green Purpose Cleaner, says the report released by Women’s Voices for the Earth, a Montana- based nonprofit working to eliminate or reduce toxic chemicals in the home. It is difficult for consumers to know whether their favorite cleaner contains the chemical because manufacturers aren’t required to list it on the label. Neither the state nor the federal government regulates indoor air pollution, for instance how the cleaners degrade the air inside the home. People exposed to high levels of EGBE for several hours have reported nose and eye irritations, headaches and vomiting, metal ...

In order to truly benefit from the vitamins you take they MUST do more than dissolve in your system. Our fruits and vegetables are not vitamin rich like they use to be, we are rotating soil faster, picking vegetables before ripeness, spraying and using harmful pesticides. Therefore a vitamin MUST absorb in the system and NOT pass in the waste like most over the counter vitamins and supplements. Many over the counter vitamins only absorb 3 to 7 percent. DON'T waste your time and money taking useless vitamins. Vitamin Line that will DELIVER:
• Energy
• Nutrients
